Helpful hint: The site is designed to serve up photos that look their best on larger screens – say at least a laptop or reasonably-sized tablet. It will also display OK on a mobile phone (if held in landscape mode) but not at it’s best – sorry about that!]

Welcome to Richard and Jean Joss’s wildlife safari photo site. All these images were taken by us during our wildlife safaris and other trips over many years. In fact our first safari was to Kenya on our honeymoon 50 years ago this year! Much has changed since that time of course. In those days, most people were driving themselves around the game parks in their own cars without guides (finding wildlife for themselves), or travelling in converted buses and trucks with only basic tents and food.

It was rare to see another vehicle – not really surprising, bearing in mind the huge areas covered by the bigger game reserves, which can be several thousand square kilometres in size. Of course there were no radios, mobile phones, or internet or satellite communications. Most of the areas were all but un-mapped. If you got lost or broke down you just waited for help. Nowadays, every self-drive visitor or guide has a mobile phone and can call up dozens of other vehicles if interesting animals are spotted or help is needed.
